Product  Care

We want you to absolutely love your new OliveAnkara! Below are some tips and tricks around how to care for your new styles and make them last forever.

Tips for Sustainable Garment Care

At OA, we value sustainability and quality. Each of our prints have a story and we want each garment to live the longest life possible.

All fabrics are pre-washed before production. These are some steps we have picked up along the way that will make sure all your pieces stay beautiful and vibrant for longer.

Care labels from OA ORIGINALS COLLECTION are made of recycled polyester.

Wear More, Wash Less - It is better for both the clothes and the environment. Our garments do not need to be washed after every wear, and instead suggest airing or steaming between wears to keep your garments fresh. If you can, spot wash areas with marks over washing the whole garment.

Cold Water - Cold Water uses less energy and is better for the life of your garment as it’s more gentle and will reduce fade. We recommend using a cold, delicate cycle and washing garments alone on their first cycle. Be cautious not to leave your items wet in the washing machine post wash as this can cause dye run.

Hang Dry - Hang your items and avoid the dryer to hold the garments shape. It saves electricity and avoids fabric deterioration.

Steaming & Ironing - We recommend steaming your garments if you are able to as it is kinder to the fibres of your fabric. Alternatively, you can hang your items in the bathroom as you shower to let them naturally steam. If ironing, turn items inside out to not iron directly on the print, as this can cause colour fade.

Repair - We’re happy to look at any OA item that needs repair to see if it’s something we can fix. As each OA repair is assessed on a case-by-case basis, we will advise about the fee when evaluating your garment.

Please make sure your item is clean before handing it off to us or mailing it in or the item will be returned to you to wash.

Cotton Wax Ankara

  • Cold machine wash on a gentle cycle with the garment flipped inside out.
  • Wash with like colours.
  • Do not bleach, instead try baking soda if you need to remove stains.
  • Do not Tumble dry. Hang the garments to dry, avoid wringing or twisting them.
  • Steam or warm iron as needed and iron the inside.
  • All fabric has been pre-treated by hand before sewing the garment to avoid any colour bleed and shrinkage.

The colours of print shouldn't run out if washed the right way, just wash it again in the washing machine at 30-40 degrees with laundry detergent & it will be ok.

TENCEL™ Lyocell

It is hard to believe that TENCEL™ is made from 100% wood pulp.
Let’s complete the sustainable cycle by washing your TENCEL™ the right way.

  • Cold HAND wash with like colours (and ideally a full load – the eco way) and with the garment flipped inside out
  • Wash with like colours, do not bleach.
  • Do not wring, twist or scrub the fabric.
  • Gently pull and shape the garment back to its original shape and size.
  • Do not leave the garment crumpled as set-in wrinkles can be difficult to remove.
  • Line dry in shade.
  • Steam or iron with a pressing cloth between the fabric and the iron.
  • Dry-cleanable.
  • All fabric has been pre-treated by hand before sewing the garment to avoid any colour bleed and shrinkage.

Think low energy.
This fabric is very low maintenance. The most important note is that it doesn’t like extreme heat, which is why both washing and drying should be kept to low temperatures. Ironing on high heat will scorch the fabric. Think au naturel.
What we recommend is also to hang the garments dry instead of tumble drying. Not only does this save energy, but gravity will help take most of the creases out to reduce the need for ironing – for free! Did we mention that one of the key engineering features of TENCEL™ is that it doesn’t wrinkle easily, besides being extra absorbent and breathable?
Amazing, isn’t it? Basically the perfect fabric to live in, day in day out.
